Trackography is a Tactical Tech project that aims to increase transparency about the data industry by illustrating who is tracking us when we read our favourite news online. It is an interactive map that gives you a visual idea which companies track us and how some of them handle our data based on their privacy policies. It also shows the routes and countries our data travels to before reaching the servers of the tracking companies and media websites. Whether you are reading the Guardian, the New York Times, O Globo or La Repubblica your data is collected by data brokers who sell it to marketing industries or other agents.

Trackography also shows that when we read the news online, our data is collected by companies we have not given our consent to and travels to servers located in foreign countries. Once our data is there it falls under the laws of the countries where such servers are based. This project also offers some easy solutions to prevent being tracked when reading the news online.
