5,000 Feet Is Best: Filming a former drone operator

A film based on an interview carried out in a Las Vegas hotel room with a former Predator drone sensor operator.

The title of Omer Fast's 30-minute film refers to the 'optimum firing position' of a drone. It was shown at the Venice Biennale in 2011 and is based on an interview carried out in a Las Vegas hotel room with a former Predator drone sensor operator. An actor plays the former drone pilot and the film deliberately misplaces and miscasts, is told in flashbacks and ends with little conclusion.

It offers an interesting take on the surreal nature of drone warfare, spoken of by James Bridle in our third episode Unseen War.
