Regret the Error

Craig Silvermans  blog on the importance of accuracy in journalism is both comic and serious by turn. He looks at the damage done by 'screw-ups' in eroding public confidence in journalism and feeding skepticism. He sees accuracy as the great enabler of good journalism, something all users of data should bear in mind when verifying sources and footage.

One of 2013's 'worst media errors', for example, was the New York Post's misidentification of two innocent men as the Boston marathon bombers, who subsequently sued the paper for defamation, as well as more light-hearted incidents such as a newspaper mis-printing its own name.
