Quantified Toilets

Quantified toilets is a fake company aimed to capture toilet behaviour for real-time data and health analysis. Using advanced sensing technologies and a centralised waste data collection system the project pretends to take a random set of toilets and detects alcohol levels, drugs, pregnancies and infections as well as (ehm) smell. The authors say Quantified toilets catalog the data for a multifaceted health analysis, but the system will also show you the amount of private information the internet of things will be able to collect about people. It was a successful experiment ran at CHI 2014, designed to engender thought and discussion regarding the issues of surveillance, data, and privacy.
