Dronestagram

As he tells us in Unseen War, artist, technologist and activist James Bridle began to post images of the locations of drone strikes in Pakistan, taken from online mapping platforms, to Instagram as they occurred.

Dronestagram uses visuals to make the locations where these strikes occur a little more visible, a little closer and more real. We may not be able to visit these places, but we now have a 1:1 map of the world at our disposal thanks to satellite technologies. For the project, James mostly uses data from the Bureau for Investigative Journalism, then uses a mix of local media reports, Wikipedia and other sources to locate a suitable view on Google Earth.
