Breaking the Silence

Breaking the Silence was created to give a voice to Israeli soldiers who have served in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem since 2000. To date they have collected over 700 written and video testimonies, mostly anonymous.

The project, launched in 2004 by a group of soldiers serving in Hebron, aims to combat the silence expected of discharged soldiers over their experiences serving in the military

Like featured activist and collaborative mapper Hagit, the team at Breaking the Silence seek to give the Israeli public access to a reality existing only minutes from their home, but rarely glimpsed. Alongside collecting testimonies, they hold lectures, special events and tours like this one through Hebron
